Reformation Sunday 2024
What’s not to like about the last Book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation! It is filled with startling visions, symbols, horrifying images, and also with beautiful portraits. The interpretation as to its meaning has been elusive and controversial from the beginning. Its inclusion as one of the authorized 66 Books of the Bible, and 27 Books of the New Testament was also controversial. But the Holy Spirit prevailed and it became the last Book of the Bible. Its use in our 3 Year Lectionary for Sunday Readings is sparse. It does not show up in Year A. It shows up once in Year B as an option. And only in Year C does it show up on 5 Sundays. And it shows up 5 times in the Feasts and Festivals of the Church, as it does today on Reformation Sunday. Like I said, What’s not to like about the Book of Revelation!...
