Presentation of Our Lord 2025

February 2nd is forty days after the celebration of Jesus’ birth on December 25. And it was 40 days after His birth that Mary, the mother of our Lord, could be ritually purified after giving birth to a son. Joseph and Mary used this occasion to present their firstborn male to the Lord as required in the Law of the Lord. They also provided a pair of birds required for the sacrifice to redeem their son. Unlike the Prophet Samuel in our first reading, Jesus will not be left to be raised by the priests serving in the Temple.
