Second Sunday in Lent 2026

Hands down, John 3:16 is the best-known verse in the Bible. And for good reason. It has been called ‘the gospel in a nutshell’. I have used that phrase as well. And if we mean that it is a good summary verse to be used as a starting point, then I think we are on safe ground. But if we mean that it is a sufficient summary and all we really need to know, then we better pay close attention to the context the verse occurs in and the way our Lord Jesus shared the good news to a Pharisee by the name of Nicodemus. Although we are unable to copy the way Jesus went about it – He is after all the Incarnate Son of God – we can nonetheless learn a lot from Him.
