When one reads through the Gospel Accounts he will likely be surprised by the portion devoted to the final week of Jesus' public ministry. Only Matthew and Luke of the four accounts contain information about his birth. And then from the time around his birth until Jesus' public ministry at age 30, only Luke includes a single incident when Jesus was twelve years of age. But concerning the events of his final week Matthew devotes 29% of his Account, Mark 37%, Luke 25%, and John a whopping 42% of their chapters. This says something of the importance of the passion (suffering) and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. And the New Testament hymn to Jesus found in our Second Lesson tells a little something about this importance...
